Spam – Are You Kidding Me?

If you are a fellow WordPress blogger you probably are aware of this, but let me explain for those who are not bloggers. WordPress has a feature built into the comments section that filters out spam. I really wasn’t aware of this for quite a while when I first started blogging, but when I did discover the spam box I also discovered that occasionally comments from regular readers would end up in the spam box. It was then that I began checking the spam regularly because I didn’t want to miss comments from my readers.

Recently I received a spam comment (not from any of my regular readers) and I just don’t know what to think of it.

I have copied the message exactly as it was written, and the only change I made was to add quotation marks at the beginning and end.

It said –

“Pease let me know if you’re looking for a writerr
for your blog. You have some really good posts and I believe
I would be a goiod asset. If you ever want to tame some of the load off, I’d absolutely love to write
some articles for your blopg in exchange for a link back to mine.
Pease blast me an email if interested. Cheers!”

Do you see the problem(s) with it?

Personally I hope that this message was written as some kind of a joke. I find it disturbing to think that someone would send a sincere message inquiring about a writing position with that many spelling errors.

  1. I’m pretty sure it’s a blog-bot that wants to advertise. I’ve gotten several of those. I did get one post that Katy Perry and the Pope were in a marketing scheme to for some sort of Tupperware and eternal damnation. I deleted that one.

    1. The only reason I questioned this one is that there were no links in the message. Usually when I get those kind of messages they have at least one link or usually several. Katy Perry, The Pope and Tupperware this a combination I would never have thought of. LOL. Shaking My Head.

    1. If you go to your “WP Admin” page there is a section that says “at a glance” it tells you how many messages are in your spam queue. Click on that # and it will take you to your spam folder.

    1. I probably blogged for a year and a half before I found it. If you go to your “WP Admin” page there is a section that says “at a glance” it tells you how many messages are in your spam queue. Click on that # and it will take you to your spam folder. You might find that some messages from your regular readers have ended up there.

  5. I think it is SPAM too and I had an issue a couple of months ago that about 15-20 new followers, all with unbelievable domain names all ending in “outlook.com” – not WordPress followers. Every time I commented on something, on my own site or someone else’s, the entire group of them showed up as a like or one word comment and all at the same time … can’t remember what the comment was. I alerted WordPress and they fixed it as it’s not happened lately.

      1. Yes they were very helpful Ruth and even though I knew it could not harm my own computer, I thought they should know because it was their server that was at risk from this group of SPAMMERS.

  12. I have noi idear what the idssue is her. Okay seriously, either this is spam, or their spellcheck is not working. Errors are underlined in squiggly red lines! It is taking all my willpower to not go back and fix the errors in my first sentence because of those red lines. Although I have never looked at my spam, maybe I should. I only have 115 followers so I doubt I would even get spam.

    1. LOL. What I find disturbing is how dependent people have become on things like spell check and (not so) smart technology. I thought maybe this was sent with something using the auto correct feature – I don’t have a smart phone but I understand it can be wrong as often as it is right.
      You might be surprised at how much spam you get.

      2. My husband and I have been laughing about them as well. I am always hearing the “horror” stories about auto- correct. I am sure I would hate using it as well.
        I suppose there are worse things to be named than Sophisticated – LOL.
