Foggy Fall Mornings

It was sweatshirt weather when Trooper and I made our way to farm the last two mornings I snapped a few pictures and thought I would share them.

It was right around 8:00 A.M. The sun was up, the sky was blue but patches of fog hung near the ground.

The Autumn colors are showing up but are not nearly at their peak.

I took this shot photo from a distance because once we got closer Trooper was sure to chase her off.

The sun was shining through the fog.

While the drops of moisture that covered everything shimmered in the sunlight.

Trooper searched the field for mice.

Perched high over head, these two bids shared a barren tree. It looks like a red winged blackbird on the right, but I am not sure what the one on the left is. This tree is one of the few dead ash that remain standing. I suspect by this time next year we will have cut it up for fire wood.

Even chillier than yesterday – I wore a sweatshirt with a long sleeved turtle-neck underneath, a knit hat, and rubber boots to keep my feet dry.

As we started our walk I thought ‘gloves would have been nice too’.

Fog hovered above the pond.

As I looked at the grasses and various plant leaves they appeared to be covered in more than just dew. I reached down and touched a leaf I found that it was indeed frost on the leaves.

I could barely make out the deer who were grazing in the back of the field. I am not sure if they could see me or just hear me.

After chasing the deer off Trooper began his search for mice.

The sun is once again working to burn off the fog.

Since we have had frost I expect the fall colors will come on quickly now.

I spotted some geese in the neighbors back yard. I had to go full zoom to got this shot.

I wonder if any of my flowers will succumb to the frost.

IMG_5832 Before leaving Trooper decided to get a nice cool drink. He then laid on the beach, but I had to be a party pooper and tell him it was time to go.

    1. Thanks. The deer are fun to see but sometimes I am jealous of people who can plant anything they want without having to worry about deer eating them. Happy October to you>

  4. I love foggy fall mornings! It’s so pretty and makes everything look so magical. My boyfriend and I went away late September and driving down the motorway at 6am looking into the fields there was a huge blanket of fog over everything x

  5. Fog can be a nightmare when driving, but pretty cool when exploring outside. Love that there are so many deer nearby, they’re such beautiful creatures. And sunrise and early morning walks are so refreshing. It’s been a while since I’ve been out for one that early but I used to all the time a few years ago. Good to see Trooper is still busy on his mouse patrol! đŸ˜†

  6. I enjoyed your trip to the farm – all that fog and the deer in the mist was very beautiful Ruth. I was amazed to see you had frost. I was sorry to see this beautiful week of weather come to an end. But all good things come to an end and it is back to reality. I hope you can salvage your flowers for a few more days, even weeks.

    1. It was a beautiful week for weather and it looks like the frost was light enough that most of the flowers survived. I would love a few more weeks of pleasant fall weather. I’m sure you would too. đŸ™‚

      1. Yes it was and I got some nice long walks in – still pushing for my goal and I know the weather will stop me in my tracks eventually. I am loading in pantry items, paper products, everything I’ll need over the Winter as I don’t like having to drive in the Winter and just go out for refrigerated food with long expiration dates when I do go out. It’s a pain to go out grocery shopping repeatedly (twice today since it didn’t rain and once tomorrow), but I’ll get it done then can enjoy the rest of the Fall. You’re lucky you salvaged your flowers – the fog and deer shots were beautiful.

      2. Thanks Linda. Do you count all those shopping steps towards your goal. I am sure they add up. Maybe we will have nice weather into December like last year – a girl can hope anyway.

      3. Hi Ruth – Yes I do, as I have the pedometer on all the time, plus I leave it on in the house on a day like today when I am doing some things around the house. I put some of it away, but not all of it and I didn’t go back out a second time because it was so windy out and very busy at Meijer (bit sale today). I hope we have a nice Fall too – I went walking one day in December last year where it was extremely mild. Yesterday I saw a wooly bully caterpillar and took a picture of it – I will write about it in an upcoming post. Not good … when they have more rust in the middle that means a mild Winter – this one had more black on it than rust, so if that’s right, and the Farmer’s Almanac is right, it will be a bad Winter – ugh.

      4. I am glad you are counting all of those indoor steps to help you meet your goal. Yes the wind today had a bite to it. The sunshine was very deceiving. My husband said the caterpillars he has seen have been about 50% black and 50% rust.

      5. Supposed to be windy this morning – today I’m wearing a hat … I hope to go shopping twice. Interesting observation by your husband … that makes me feel better. I’m going to post about that caterpillar later this week … I hope “my” caterpillar was an oddity and yours are the norm.

  9. The trees are changing quickly. Each morning this week the woods across from us have become a little more colorful. The drive to Port Huron along I69 this week was beautiful

    1. We adopted Trooper from the shelter when he was about 6 months old so we don’t know fore sure what he is. We believe he is a Leonberger mix you can read more about that breed here https://www.akc.org/dog-breeds/leonberger/ . He didn’t catch any mice on these trips but in the past he has caught many. He and Scout used to work as a team to catch them. Scout would dig into the ground and Trooper would watch for the mouse to run and he would grab it when he saw it. They would spend hours in the field hunting mice if we let them.
