Word of the Week – Week # 17

Hello and welcome.

Our word of the week is Indecision.

Merriam Webster defines indecision as:

a wavering between two or more possible courses of action IRRESOLUTION

I have to admit that this “Word of the Week” series that I started writing in January 2021 has been more challenging than I expected. I find myself struggling each week to decide on a word. Throughout my life I have never had problems with indecision but in most, probably all, cases I have a much smaller selection. It is reported that there are over a million words in the English language and my challenge is to choose just 1 each week.

In an attempt to make things easier I have decided to narrow the scope of these posts. Going forward the words that I select must be uplifting – something to heighten the mood, make you feel good or make you smile. That is now my goal for Word of the Week. I hope you will stick with me and we will see how it goes. 🙂

How you ever struggled with indecision? Do you have a process for making decisions?

  1. There is a business in my area that post little jokes on their board by the highway. Very funny in my option and related to your discussion this week:

Used to be indecisive, now ….not so sure

  2. I mull over everything Ruth and a fellow blogger just wrote a post about a book she read on overthinking things and she realized at the end of the book, she was an overthinker. That is me to a “T” as well – I overthink EVERYTHING!

    1. There are big decisions that we really need to think through but overthinking can become a problem when we let fear control or paralyze us, I think we need to realize that we are all gonna make mistakes at times. We are only human after all.

  3. I wouldn’t say l suffer with indecision – but l would say that as l have aged l have become more cautious than when l was younger and so when it comes to decision making – l don’t make rash ones.

However once l do make a decision – it’s final, l then make it happen.

  4. I find myself indecisive in the most mundane of things (which ice cream flavor to choose out of the million offered). However, I am very decisive with the more crucial decisions.

I’m still impressed that you’ve managed to keep this series up so long. It’s great that you’ve identified a problem (can’t decide what word to choose) and then formed a plan (uplifting).

Looking forward to seeing where you take us.

    1. I guess I learned through writing this post that while it’s nice to have options, too many can be a hindrance. Eliminating options is a good place to start in the decision making process.

  5. Have I ever suffered from indecision? Ha! This week has weighed me down. Once the decision is finally made, though, you can actually concentrate on the solution. Whether it is planning dinners for the week/month (my normal energy using activity) or whether or not to cancel/postpone a school movie night that I am responsible for (this week’s energy drain) indecision is an issue for me. I am not sure where to start in working on that one. Any suggestions are welcome.
I hope choosing words of the week are the only things causing you pause in deciding. 🙂

    1. I often ask my husband what he would like for dinner. If he doesn’t offer up an idea I pick something that I have on hand so we don’t have to make an extra trip to the store. We also eat a lot of leftovers so I don’t have to worry about cooking a big meal every night. I am thankful though that we have so many choices an are not worrying about how we will eat.
I’m sure the movie night is a tough call (not knowing all of the situation) I would weigh the pros and cons, probably consult with others at the school, and for sure pray about it asking Him for wisdom.

  6. First I love your Blogs ALWAYS!
I have in my time had periods in my life where indecisive. But as I get older it seems easier because no time to waste on making simple decisions.
Even the big ones are easy to get done and move on to the next thing!
Life is good and pretty amazing even when difficult. Being able to make decisions helps clarify my life.

    1. Thanks Cheryl. You’re right as we get older we realize the value of time. Perhaps that makes us bolder with our decision making. I agree – Life is good! 🙂
