If you have been following my blog some of this will seem familiar.
Like the baby bunnies we found in the nest in our blueberry patch.
and of course the family of skunks we encountered recently.
But if you are a fan of Disney movies you may realize that while we had “Thumper(s)” and “Flower(s)” we seem to be missing Bambi.
Nothing could be farther from the truth. One day last week my husband was going to attempt to till up the front garden bed. I was talking to him on the phone when he said, “what the heck is that?” I waited for him to tell me what he saw. Then he said “oh, it’s a baby deer.” He at first thought that it was dead, but then it jumped to it’s feet and scurried off running into a tree stump before disappearing amongst high weeds and trees. I am certain it didn’t go far and momma was somewhere in the area and would return before long.
I don’t have any pictures of that baby because my husband doesn’t carry a camera, but a few days later I spotted this doe dinning on chicken scratch in the driveway. This is quite possibly momma.
“Bambi’s” or white tail deer are quite at home on our farm and in the spring it is common to see momma’s with their young, often twins or triplets.
The photo below is a set of triplets that were born last spring.
Have you every felt like your life was like a Disney movie? Which Disney movie would you want to live?
There is a real beauty to being able to live in the rural countryside and have many wildlife companions visiting the homestead. My life as a disney movie, probably Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs – no, l am NOT SW, l am probably all the dwarfs 🙂

A little bit of each of the Dwarfs would seem to be a good balance.

They are all so sweet and how exciting to see those triplets last year. That deer looked bony or is it just her pose? I loved all the Disney movies growing up – cried so much watching “The Red Pony” and “Old Yeller” though – a feel-good movie was “The Incredible Journey” which I was in the early 1960s and read the book. It was quite dog-eared as I read it many times.

I think she looks thin partly because of her pose but also because deer generally don’t have a lot of fat on them and a nursing doe would have even less. They spend most of their day eating to produce enough energy to feed their young.
I never saw the original “The Incredible Journey” or read the book but I remember “Homeward Bound – The Incredible Journey” from the 1990’s. It was one of the Disney movies that my kids watched over and over and it was really a feel good movie.

I didn’t know that about deer Ruth – thanks for enlightening me about it. I’ve never seen the remake of “The Incredible Journey” … yes it was a feel-good movie and I had several other ones that I loved in that time about animals, including “Rascal” about a boy who finds a raccoon.

If I were to live a Disney movie, I hope it would be a musical.

When my daughters were preteens and teens they had to work together to clean the kitchen after dinner each night. They would sing songs from Disney movies as they worked. It was always fun to hear them singing together (a talent they didn’t get from me).
