Who Let The Dogs Out?

I come from a family of dog lovers. That trait also got passed on to my daughters. This weekend we had a small family get together where we met the newest family member –

Captain.

Captain AKA Captain James T. Kirk is a 4 month old Boxer- Lab mix who was recently adopted by my daughter Kara.

He came to play with Phantom,

Phantom, a Husky mix, belongs to my daughter Lindell. I think he is around two years old.

and Ranger

Ranger, our Beagle, is probably between 18 months and 2 years old.

and Trooper.

Trooper, our Leonberger mix, is about 11 years old.

The four of them got along quite well. I did find it challenging to get a picture of them all together. I got just one.

This is how dogs get acquainted.

Makes me glad I’m not a dog. LOL!

While the young dogs ran,

and played,

and roughhoused,

Trooper seemed to take on a more adult role – acting as referee.

By the end of the day we had four very exhausted dogs – which is not a bad thing. 🙂

In closing I will leave you with these words from Captain James T. Kirk.

“The more complex the mind, the greater the need for the simplicity of play.”

Thanks for reading.

    1. When we adopted Trooper from the shelter we were told he was a shepherd mix about 6 months old. It wasn’t until a few months later that someone suggested that he might be a Leonberger. We were not familiar with the breed so started doing some research. Leonbergers are a somewhat rare breed. They were originally bread in Germany – a mix between Saint Bernard, Great Pyrenees and Newfoundland. They are referred to as a gentle giant. We discovered that Trooper had many of the traits of a Leonberger. Over the years we have had several vets agree that it is likely his breed. How or why he ended up in the shelter will always be a mystery – but I am glad he did.

    1. You’re welcome! 🙂 They are all rescues too. Well technically Phantom came from a “pet store” but he was still living in a cage so I think of him as a rescue as well.

  1. That’s a cute post Ruth- yes, dogs have a strange way of getting acquainted, but we love them anyway and they make us feel good. They all got along and Trooper did a good job as referee. I can see why they were tuckered out at the end of day. 🙂

      1. Yes you are right Ruth. I will remember what you said when I found the rock that said “Send Joy in the Journey” … I will keep walking that path and enjoying nature as long as I can. Next week will be 9 years since I started my walking regimen.

    1. I’m glad you enjoyed it Anne. It was funny when we were sitting on the beach and they would come running past they would kick up sand an we would get showered in it. I’m glad you get to enjoy having Sadie around. It’s a good way to have a dog without really having a dog. 🙂
