Farewell My Friend Until We Meet Again

Our hearts are broken, and tears are falling. Our beloved Trooper has gone to wait for us at the rainbow bridge.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….

We’ll miss you Trooper but will forever cherish the memories. ❤

  1. Sorry for your loss Ruth. When our inner hearted friends leave us , they take a piece of us with them and we can never get it back. RIP Trooper.

  2. Run free Trooper, free from your cares, woes and ills. Safe journey to you as you go to join those who have gone before in the everlasting meadow with the warm sun on your back.

I cannot “like” this blog entry. I say this, with my paw on my heart. Thank you for looking after Trooper and sharing their life with yours.

    1. Thank you Dexter. Trooper brought us so much joy over the years. He too was a rescue. He was gentle and loving and playful and fun and loyal to his people and brothers Scout and Ranger. We couldn’t have asked for a better dog.

  3. Such great pictures. Many good memories. Scout trained Trooper well and he was a true and loyal friend. My heart is with you sending all my love and prayers and a great big hug ❤

    1. Thanks K.C. The relationship between Scout and Trooper just amazed me. There was not verbal communications or signals but some form of ESP. I could tell it was happening but don’t understand how. When Scout was old and needed my help Trooper would come get me. It was the truest of friendships.

  4. Ruth I was scrolling down to find where I left off in Reader and saw this sad news. What a wonderful collection of photos of Trooper you have – hard to pick a favorite, but that big rawhide bone wore him out and made me smile. Also staring at the door willing someone to let him in (then probably wanted out again a few minutes later). The Rainbow Bridge is a beautiful sentiment and it makes me mist up every time I read it. I can’t have any more pets after I lost Buddy five years ago … it’s just too hard grieving for them. Their passing leaves such a hole in your heart.

    1. I am thankful that I have so many photos of him. Probably a couple hundred (maybe more) over the nearly 13 years he was with us. I just selected a few of my favorites. He ate that big rawhide all at once – then threw it up about an hour later. That was the last time we gave him a big one like that.
As hard as it is to lose a pet, I think that it could be even harder for an animal to lose their person that they are bonded with.

      1. I’d never seen a rawhide bone that big Ruth. You are blessed with the memories and all the photos of Trooper. You are right about animals losing their person. I read stories about shelter pets who lost an elderly person who passed away or went into assisted living, etc. and could not take them. Sometimes elderly pets who are now on their own seem so sad and lost.

  5. It must seem like it was just yesterday that he came to play with Trooper and yet it seems like he has always been there. I am sorry that he has gone on, but glad he gave you and Dom such pleasure. Thirteen years went quickly. Much love and prayers.

      1. I sure remember it like it was yesterday (I think Hanna remembers it well too). I have to admit that first night I wasn’t sure how things were gonna work out. On day two Scout began training Trooper and everyone was happy from then on. Thank you for the prayers. Love and hugs to you and the family.

    1. Thank you, Anne. He was a great subject to photograph. That tub was actually used more by Scout and Trooper than people. 🙂
Yes, Memphis is a small town in Michigan where my daughters went to school. Incidentally it is bordered by Columbus (MI) and Richmond (MI).

  6. My most heart felt sympathy. It’s always so difficult to say goodbye to those angels in fur coats. I’ve found it comforting to hear that amazing essay about Rainbow Bridge when my own dear ones have passed, because I believe they are healed, healthy and well and no longer restricted by the pain and illnesses that come after a long life. Blessings to you and your family. Take care of yourselves.
