This spring I have been seeing a bluebird around the farm a lot. I really don’t know if I am always seeing the same one or there are more than one, because I have only seen one at a time. This afternoon I was able to capture a picture of it in the oak tree at our picnic area. Not the clearest picture but I think you can tell it’s a bluebird.
Thanks for joining me and have a great weekend.

A lovely garden and bluebird! I am so happy to you get to see him!

Bluebirds fit perfectly with the colour palette! Such gorgeous flowers 😊

I’m not sure why but the colors this year just seem extra brilliant. We are also seeing more types of birds than usual. Yesterday we were sitting in the beach area and had an oriole chattering at us in the trees near by.

Yes, a lot more birds here too–a couple of blue jays have made themselves at home here!

My pleasure Ruth. I have to ask, how long ago did you plant the peonies? I’ve read it takes years for them to bloom. Is that true?

I got them from my sister who was willing to divide hers. I just dug up a portion (maybe 1/3 of the plant. It was late summer or fall when I planted them and they bloomed the next spring but the deer ate all the blossoms. So I’m not really sure if you were starting with young plants how long before they would bloom.

Ah. So you borrowed them from mature plants. That’s smart! Thank you Ruth.

And the other plant did mind at all – it’s still thriving. You’re welcome.

I hope you do too. Today we had company at the farm and as we were on the beach a Baltimore oriole was chattering at us from the trees nearby. We are really seeing a wide variety of birds this year.

That is exciting – I saw one thru the trees last year at Lake Erie Metropark. I wouldn’t have seen it except a woman was there was a very long lens on her camera and it pointed at that Baltimore Oriole. I saw an Osprey today at Lake Erie Metropark and a deer – an exciting day for me!

I don’t think I have ever seen an osprey, but I saw a momma deer hop over our fence a couple days ago. My husband had seen her newborn fawn on the outside of the fence earlier in the day. She apparently saw some tasty greens inside the fence so stopped by for lunch. We noticed today that the tops of some of our strawberry plants were eaten off – grrr -apparently all that clover wasn’t good enough for her.

Is this your new fence your husband put up this year Ruth? It looked pretty high. I was surprised to see how fast that deer could run yesterday. I’ve seen them walking fast, but something spooked her and she took off very quickly. I have a high school friend who lives on the edge of a wooded area in New York. She has no fence and the deer wander into her yard and “die” on her berry bushes and hostas, which they nibble down to the ground.

Yes, but it’s only a 4-foot fence so quite easy for the deer to get over. We have found that the deer traffic on the farm has been greatly reduced with the fence up, but there are always some…

My neighbors see bluebirds, but I don’t have their sharp eyes. I’m glad you see at least one.
