We received our first Christmas card of the year. It was from my dad. You may remember that my dad passed away last year. Actually, it was one year ago today. The Christmas card that we received was delivered by my daughter on Saturday, when we gathered to celebrate Thanksgiving.
Let me back up a bit to explain. Last year when we were cleaning out my dad’s apartment, and finding new homes for his belongings, my daughter took two computer printer/copiers. We didn’t know if they were any good but no one else wanted/needed them so she thought she would at least give them a try. She had the printers in storage until several weeks ago.
Now back to our Thanksgiving celebration. Lindell handed me a small slip of paper, she said “when I opened one of those printers, I got from Papa, this paper popped out.” Tears clouded my eyes as I read the following words.
I see the countless Christmas trees
Around the world below,
With tiny lights, like heaven’s stars,
Reflecting on the snow.
The sight is so spectacular,
Please wipe away that tear.
For I’m spending Christmas
With Jesus Christ this year.
I hear the many Christmas songs,
That people hold so dear,
But the sounds of music can’t compare,
With the Christmas choir up here.
For I have no words to tell you,
The joy their voices bring.
For it is beyond description,
To hear an angel sing.
I can’t tell you of the splendor,
Or the peace here in this place.
Can you just imagine Christmas,
With our Savior, face to face?
I’ll ask Him to light your spirit,
As I tell Him of your love;
So then pray for one another,
As you lift your eyes above.
Please let your heart be joyful,
And let your spirit sing.
For I’m spending Christmas in Heaven,
And I’m walking with the King!
I know how much you miss me;
I see the pain inside your heart.
But I’m not so far away,
We really aren’t apart.
So be happy for me, dear ones,
You know I hold you dear,
And be glad I’m spending Christmas
With Jesus Christ this year.
I send you each a special gift
From my heavenly home above.
I send you each a memory
Of my undying love.
After all “love” is the gift,
More precious than pure gold.
It was always most important
In the stories Jesus told.
Please love and keep each other
As my Father said to do,
For I can’t count the blessings
Or the love He has for you.
So have a Merry Christmas and
Wipe away that tear.
Remember I’m spending Christmas
With Jesus Christ this year!
These words were not originally written by my dad (I have found them attributed to Wanda Bencke), but this is the message Dad sent to his loved ones this year.
Thanks for visiting.
What a loving gift for you to find from your father. For it to be found at this time of year makes it even more special. Merry Christmas and hugs and blessings Ruth.

Hi Ruth – some of my comments are not showing up on fellow blogger’s sites – could you please check your SPAM filter when you get a chance and see if it’s there, otherwise I’ll leave another message. I don’t know why my message would have landed there, but you know I’d never just “like” such a heartfelt post.

You’re welcome Ruth … you were the first one I realized my comment didn’t go through, then I discovered two other bloggers where my comment didn’t go through. At least you found it. This was too special of a post that I would have surely commented again.

I know, Linda. It was just the perfect message from dad. I want to say it was shocking to find it but like my sister said, “That figures” (that my dad would find a way to reach out to us from heaven.) 🙂
