As I mentioned in previous posts it was a stellar year for growing cucumbers. I lost track of how many jars of various of pickles I canned. The cucumber plants did stop producing and the vines dried up, so my husband has pulled them out and added them to the compost pile.

We gave cucumbers to family, friends and neighbors – pretty much anyone who we came in contact with was a least offered some cucumbers. I guess by early this week we had also had our fill of fresh cucumbers since there were four cucumbers that had been sitting in the refrigerator for several days and neither my husband nor I had offered up any suggestions on what we should do with them.
On Wednesday it occurred to me, I hadn’t saved any cucumber for one of my favorite soap recipes. That’s right – soap. I created this recipe several years ago. It contains cucumber and yogurt and has rosemary infused into the olive oil. Since many of the ingredients might be found in a salad, I named it Salad Bar (as in bar of soap). Don’t Eat It!
I pureed those last four cucumbers and put the puree in the freezer until I have time to turn it into soap.
If anyone is interested in this soap recipe leave me a comment and I will post it for you.
Thanks for visiting.
Love that, such a great idea. Fresh cucumber soap smells so good. Sometimes I will add cucumbers to ice water, or feed them to our giant snails in our fish tanks, they love them.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen giant snails. What else do they eat?

The fragrance is very mild but the lather is wonderful. 🙂

Nobbly or smooth would the Salad Bar be?

The cucumber puree is smooth and acts as liquid in the soap recipe as does the yogurt. The Salad Bar is a smooth and creamy soap.

Oh right, l ask as some soaps have rougher nobbly bits to them to aid scubbing.
My comedy side saw a cucumber shaped soap, one side smooth and the other nobbly.

My coffee soap which has coffee grounds in it and my Breakfast Bar with oatmeal in it both have rougher textures. So you might call them nobbly.

“Salad Bar” – what a great name for the yogurt/cucumber soap. There’s the rain, now that you’re done harvesting.

Most of the rain has missed us this week.

We got some last night and a storm early this morning – we missed that bad storm though it thundered for hours it seems. Hope the storm and power outage missed you.

We had lots of thunder and some rain too but the worst of it missed us. No power outage this time. 🙂

Hopefully the cold weather brings the end of severe storms. I put the heat on for one time as it was 68 in the house and I have to sit in one place all day and then at night I’m still sitting at the computer. Brrrr!

We turned the heat on in the morning – just long enough to take the chill out then turned it off for the rest of the day. Once we were dressed and moving it was fine. We also spent a lot of time outside. This morning we’re getting light rain.

My problem on a work day is I sit in one place for so long and cannot open up any of my windows as the metal shutters are stuck, so no sun comes in to warm it up. That’s a problem. Today I was gone part of the day, despite the rain, getting the new Covid shot which I had to drive to Dearborn as my CVS was booked for two, almost three weeks out. It dried up here in early afternoon. Too soon to be this cold though.

I love the salad bar soap. Funny how sometimes we overlook the obvious. I’m glad you saved some of the bounty for soap.

I’ve been so busy with canning and preserving that soap making has been far from my mind. I too am glad it occurred to me to save some for soap.

I’m not sure if I’ll try to recreate it, but I think it would be interesting to see the recipe.
