Hello and welcome. I am just sharing a few pictures and notes from last week.
Monday morning when I took the dogs out for their morning romp, we were greeted by this heron who was enjoying brunch at the pond. It didn’t stick around once the dogs and I got out of the van. I do hope it had its fill.
That same evening when I went to close up the coop the moon was big, bright and beautiful in the eastern sky. It was a day short of being the full (harvest) moon. This was also a supermoon.
On Sunday we hosted a special visitor at the farm.
Some of you might remember meeting Taffy in my post from last year. It was actually a year ago this past week when we picked up Taffy from the shelter and took her to her new home to live with her new best friend, my dad.
Dad doesn’t get out much due to physical problems, so Taffy doesn’t get out much either. Ever since dad got Taffy my husband has wanted to pick her up and bring her to the farm for a visit. We finally did it.
Ranger and Ruby didn’t mind her being there. I suspect they were already somewhat familiar with her because I always come home from dad’s place with her scent on my clothes. Their meeting was a matter of putting a face with the scent. Likewise for Taffy. She probably recognized their scent as the one I have on my clothes when I come to her house.
Taffy seemed to enjoy being able to wander around off leash and she walked the perimeter of the back field with me.
She was curious about the horses. She acted like she wanted to play with Bernard (the miniature) but she backed away when Colby Jack got close. I think he was a bit intimidating.
At first Taffy didn’t pay any attention to the chickens but eventually she got curios and began chasing them. They were easily able to outrun her and knew the good hiding places so she didn’t hurt any of them. Next time she visits I will do some on-leash training to teach her not to chase the chickens.
After about an hour and a half I took Taffy back home where she slept the rest of the day away. Spending time at the farm does seem to have that effect on dogs – it tires them out.
Thanks for visiting. Did you see the full moon last week?

Love the reflection of the moon in the water! And Taffy? What a sweetie!

The moon is wonderful, isn’t it? Taffy had a great day, didn’t she.

Hi Mitzy. It’s good to hear from you. I do love that we live in a place where we see the moon and the stars. One time we had visitors at the farm and the young man thought it was amazing how much sky he could see. It was nighttime and clear sky so the moon and lots of stars out. He had grown up in the city and had never see that kind of view. That was an eyeopener for me having lived most of my life in the country.

Isn’t it wonderful to share our often ‘take-for-granted’ beauty with others?❤️

That Heron was plumping itself up at the pond unfortunately. I remember Taffy – she did enjoy herself touring the farm but no more messin’ with the chickens Taffy – Ruth will teach you like she did Ranger and Ruby. I did not see the full moon last week, so I enjoyed seeing your day-before-the-Harvest Moon picture Ruth. When I was a kid my parents had Mitch Miller albums and one song was “Shine On Harvest Moon” – I probably know all the albums’ lyrics by heart to this day as my father played them every Sunday on the stereo.

Not to worried about the heron eating too much fish from our pond since our green herons didn’t show up this year. Not sure why but this is the first year in about 6 or 7 that they haven’t been here. I’m not familiar with Mitch Miller but there are songs that my dad used to listen to when I was young that I remember the lyrics. 🙂

That’s odd about the green heron. I wasn’t sure how stocked with fish your pond was, so the heron can enjoy himself then. I hear old songs sometimes and marvel I remember the words, yet go downstairs and can’t remember what I went downstairs for. 🙂

The pond is well stocked and I’m sure it is only eating the little one that close to shore and probably some frogs too. 🙂

Well, I am glad he is not being “piggy” when stopping at your pond … I am sure the heron is casting a wary eye toward Ranger and Ruby as well. 🙂

As soon as I let the dogs out it flew off.

It won’t be flying much in this wind today – wow!

Me too Ruth … some of the devastation I saw from the Hurricane was just horrifying, especially that hospital in Tennessee.

My sister and brother-in-law in TN got hit hard. Lots of trees down, thankfully not on their house. They are on a mountain so the flooding was at lower elevations than where they are. Last I heard they were still out of power and working on tree clean up.

Wow – they were lucky no trees were down on their house. I hope they send the out-of-state linemen to help out like they do for us. At least the temperatures aren’t terrible for no power. Lots of loss of life with this hurricane. The wrath of Mother Nature is scary sometimes. We’re lucky to just be getting some much-needed rain.

They do have a generator. Yes we are very fortunate. I was just looking at pictures of some of the worst hit areas. Devastating!

Fresh air at the farm is good for dogs and animals. That was a great outing for a normally homebound dog.

That fresh air is good for us two legged animals too as is spending time with the 4-legged ones. 🙂

We did see the Harvest Moon and the lunar eclipse last week. It was fabulous to see it before the haze rolled in.
I’m glad Taffy had fun at the farm!

We missed the eclipse. Didn’t even realize there was one until reading about it after.
