I have decided to dedicate a post in this series to each of my daughters. All of my girls have always loved Disney movies and I have some very fond memories of the girls singing and dancing together, to Disney songs, while completing their after dinner chores. So I have decided to make these Disney dedication posts.
30 years ago today I gave birth for the first time. It was a difficult pregnancy and after being on bed rest for several weeks the doctor decided to induce labor two and a half weeks before my due date. After 12 hours of labor he decided a c-section was the best option. I was sedated during the surgery and awakened sometime later to meet my 4 pound 13 ounce daughter Hanna.
The Lion King is the movie that will always remind me of Hanna. Even though by this time she may have another favorite (or two), I don’t think I will ever forget the day when I had Hanna with me while shopping at our local K-Mart store. My sister worked at the store so when we shopped there we always looked for Aunt Kathy. When we found her and were saying “hello”, five year old Hanna, who was crouched down on all fours in the shopping cart, announced “I’m Simba!” just like the young lion cub in the movie. “Call me Simba,” Hanna insisted.
Kathy and I had a good chuckle at Hanna’s cuteness and Hanna got called Simba, of course.
This is my Disney dedication to Hanna.
I selected a second song for Hanna. Not a Disney song. Just a song from me to her.
Happy 30th birthday Kiddo (Simba)! I Love you!

“The Lion King” will always remind me of my youngest daughter. We had the DVD, and she would play it and sing “Hakuna Matata,” dancing around the den. ❤

Thanks for sharing your precious memories. I suspect even today if I turned that movie on I would be able to recite it. LOL!

So many times her stories would fascinate the other people in the waiting room while Zac was taking his music lessons. I can remember having to stay longer so she could finish up. Fond memories , crazy how quickly it all flew by.

LOL! I didn’t realize you had to wait for her to finish her story before you could leave.

Ruth,
Does she still sing when doing after dinner chores I wonder. They are getting so OLD-them, not us mind you.

I doubt it. It wouldn’t be the same without her sisters. When I talked to her on the phone earlier and mentioned that this incident was 25 years ago she scolded me for reminding her how old she was getting. HA!

Oh, this is a nice post Ruth. Great reflections and I enjoyed the music from both “The Lion King” and also the Rascal Flatts’ song “My Wish” … happy 30th birthday to Hanna/Simba. 🙂

I did – especially the Rascal Flatts’ song – I only heard one song by him. Very pretty.

I remember conversations with Hanna during those difficult days before she was born explaining she needed to cooperate and not give you such a hard time. And how incredibly tiny and perfect she was. So many Disney moments . My favorite was when we were in the car and Hanna quietly in the back seat says “oh Roger”
I had no Idea who Roger was but as Hanna continued on about puppies I was able to figure out that she was quoting from 101 Dalmatians. Happy Birthday Hanna 💌

I remember talking you talking to her too and once she was born she really was a good baby. That is so funny – I had forgot that story probably because I wasn’t there. It is so “Hanna” though. Is it any wonder her favorite part of high school was drama club?
