Hello and Welcome!
Our word this week is humility.
Merriam Webster defines humility as:
freedom from pride or arrogance : the quality or state of being humble
Like, integrity, humility is a characteristic that I have great respect and admiration for: the person who, when praised, gives credit to those who have supported their efforts: the one who has the strength to say “I was wrong. I am sorry.”: and the individual who truly finds it an honor to serve those in need.
What Other’s Have To Say
A great man is always willing to be little. ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
There’s no need to show off when you know who you are. ~ Maxime Lagacé
Pride makes us artificial and humility makes us real. ~Thomas Merton
To lead the people, walk behind them. ~ Lao Tzu
Humility will open more doors than arrogance ever will. ~ Zig Ziglar
Humility is the solid foundation of all virtues. ~ Confucius
It was pride that changed angels into devils; it is humility that makes men as angels. ~ Augustine of Hippo
Humility is not thinking less of yourself, it’s thinking of yourself less. ~ C. S. Lewis
If you are humble nothing will touch you, neither praise nor disgrace, because you know what you are. ~ Mother Teresa
Don’t seek praise. Let your effort speak for itself. ~ Unknown
What The Bible Says
Psalm 25:9 He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way.
Proverbs 27:2 Let someone else praise you, and not your own mouth; an outsider, and not your own lips.
Romans 12:16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.
Philippians 2:3-4 3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, 4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.
Matthew 23:10-12 10 Nor are you to be called instructors, for you have one Instructor, the Messiah. 11 The greatest among you will be your servant. 12 For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.
Luke 14:11 For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
Thanks for visiting!
Unfortunately, I find “Humility will open more doors than arrogance ever will” not to be true in every case. I do like Mother Theresa’s words a lot.

I am not surprised and I think that says a lot about the society we live in. Mother Theresa was a wise woman.

Well said. I often pray when I’m writing and some of the other crafts and activities I do. That is a great verse.

So much humility has been lost in a society that values the” like “button . I struggle myself sometimes. I love to be creative and I almost always love the results. I know my talents come from God because I pray during the whole process. Still when people are praising my work it’s tough to not get caught up in it. I love all of the quotes you listed. One of my favorites is Colossians 3:23 “Whatever you do , do your work heartily for God , and not for man . ” hopefully it keeps me from getting arrogant and prideful

This was my favorite quote Ruth … it is so very true. Humility is not thinking less of yourself, it’s thinking of yourself less. ~ C. S. Lewis
[P.S. – hope you are getting the drenching rain we are right now – my weather alarm just went off for the third time this evening … I hope they are wrong about the severity of this storm.]

I just looked at the radar – the rain is almost here. 🙂

Yay for that – I hope it is a good downpour for you. It rained here, right on schedule. Lost power for just a minute – it’s still rumbling around out there. We are supposed to get another round before 1:00 a.m.

We had two rounds come through that brought several inches of heavy rain, wind, thunder, lightning. When the second round came through around 3:00 a.m. we lost power. I woke around 5:00 and realized it was out. My husband said it had been out for a couple hours. They got it back on around10:30 this morning so it was a big issue. We won’t have to water for a while now. 🙂

Glad you got all the rain Ruth – we had 1 1/2 inches here in Lincoln Park, but sorry you lost power. Hopefully nothing spoiled while the power was out. I lost the power for about a 1/2 minute and that was it. I ended up staying up until 1:15 until they were no longer “talking tornado”. They confirmed that tornado in Coldwater this morning, an F1. Scary. I wish the weather would just settle down and I’m loving the cooler temps.

Last year our long time neighbor and friend was moving in with his daughter. He offered to sell us his generator for a very good price. He didn’t have to ask twice. This was the first time we have had to use it for a power outage. It sure is nice to have when we need it.

I don’t blame you for buying it from your neighbor. The way this weather is and we are having another unsettled and potentially dangerous weekend ahead. It is good to have for all seasons.
