Hello and welcome!
Our word for this week is Integrity.
According to Merriam Webster Integrity means:
1: firm adherence to a code of especially moral or artistic values : INCORRUPTIBILITY
2: an unimpaired condition : SOUNDNESS
3: the quality or state of being complete or undivided : COMPLETENESS
Integrity is probably my favorite character trait. I have great respect and admiration for those who demonstrate this attribute. I personally think of integrity as “doing the right thing just because it is the right thing to do,” but I also like the term Incorruptibility used in the definition above. Nowadays integrity seems to be something that is severely lacking in our society. The news, no matter what your source, is filled with stories of crime and corruption at every level; we are continually being warned about scams and we are being told how we must protect our identity from unknown predators looking to gain access to our personal information. I’ve find it sad that there is such a lack of integrity in society.
It wasn’t until recently that I realized that perhaps integrity is not as rare as it may seem. You see integrity is not news worthy. It does not evoke the emotions of fear, frustration, disgust, anger or rage that keep us coming back to hear more. It does not get us riled up.
Integrity is humble it doesn’t scream “look at me – here I am”.
Integrity is confident and stands on it’s own principles. It often stands alone in the crowd. It does not require recognition or commendation, but is self satisfying and rewarding. It brings peace of mind to those who have it. They can sleep well at night.
Integrity can’t be bought but to know a person with integrity is a priceless gift.
My daughter recently encountered a person with integrity when she lost her debit card while on vacation. Three days after loosing her card she was contacted by a woman through social media. The woman thought she had found my daughters card. I won’t go into all the details but this woman went above and beyond to make sure Lindell’s debit card was returned to her. Lindell was most grateful but the woman would not accept anything in return. That’s integrity!

I’ve never been the recipient but my boss was on an airplane on business a few years ago. His wallet fell out of his back pants pocket and he left it on the plane. He did not realize it until he got back home to Detroit and it was a weekend and he cancelled all his credit cards immediately. The airline called him and said one of the cleaning crew found his walled embedded in the seat fold and they Fed Exed it to him. It had not been touched, money/credit card intact.

An enjoyable story. I found a flash drive at the house we were staying at on vacation. It looked as if it has been out in the weather a long time. I asked my son to check it out. He opened it and it belonged to a guy several states away. He lost it several months ago. It contained all his passwords and a lot of financial information. My son called him from the info on the flash drive. He didn’t even realize that he’d lost it. He offered my son a reward (which he refused.) Son mailed it to the guy at no charge. So, yes, there are plenty of people with integrity out there. We just don’t hear those stories.

Thank you for sharing this story. I’m sure your son was rewarded just knowing that he did the right thing. We really need to hear these stories – not only are they encouraging, they are a shining example of how we all should live.

I agree with you in regards to the fact that it’s a great trait to have. However, I also fail to see much of it in today’s world. But you are right 0 integrity is not news-worthy. Good to hear that your daughter was able to experience some of the goodness in this world.

I always like to believe there are more people out there with integrity than we think, despite all the news trying to tell us otherwise, and your daughter’s story proves it😊

So many good things are not newsworthy, yet they are the things that mean the most. What a blessing for Lindell to have someone that cares to do the right thing find her missing card. It just proves there are everyday angels looking out for us.

It’s a shame that more of the good stories do not make the news. I think they can inspire others to good.

I was at a festival once and absent-mindedly left my purse sitting at a table. When I went back for it, it was gone, but not to fear. Thankfully, someone with integrity had turned it in and the police now had it. When I went to the police station to claim it, the cop asked me to identify its contents, and all the money and credit cards were there. Postscript: Before the cop handed my purse back to me, she said, “This is the neatest purse I’ve ever seen.” LOL! I had cleaned it out the day before for the first time in a year.

I am quite familiar with the once a year (if that) cleaning. LOL! Thank you for sharing your story. I know these things are happening but we just don’t hear enough of it.
