Preserving the Harvest

Hello and welcome.

Our cucumbers are coming in fast and furious.

Earlier in the week I made two quarts of refrigerator dill pickles.

Then today I made 5 pints of bread and butter pickles.

The recipe I used is from the Ball Blue Book.

We’ve been eating a lot of green beans, so it was time to put some in the freezer. I froze four packages today.

It’s not time for making tomato sauce yet but we did pick our first (2) ripe tomatoes. One for each of us. They were small but delicious.

Thanks for visiting.

  1. All the heat has made your crops grow fast and furiously hasn’t it? You’ll get some much-needed rain tomorrow since this storm is widespread, so the windmill gets a reprieve as do you and your husband as to gardening chores. Good luck with the rest of the tomatoes!

      1. Yes, the torrential rain like in the past few years. Well, I think we dodged another bullet today thankfully. Southeast Michigan, our area, was in the bullseye they said. We got some rain for an hour maybe … hopefully nothing overnight.

      2. I am looking forward to that cool break. However, all the parks where I usually go have events scheduled this coming weekend, Friday through Sunday, like the Jazz Festival at Elizabeth Park, Heritage Park has Junior World Series and in Dearborn, they have their annual “Homecoming” which is just a carnival, singing acts, etc. all outside at Ford Field Park where I usually park, but there’s construction in that area as well. We had a lot of rain today and thunder/lightning, but no flooding like at Metro Airport, which got five inches of rain in 40 minutes. It all dried up – in fact, the storm was from around 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and a neighbor was cutting the lawn at 8:00 p.m. I hope you didn’t have any damage to your plants or your crops from water/hail/wind.
